At Statham we believe in the power of music. Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity and helps us to feel happier, express ourselves and work as part of a team. Our high-quality music education engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and develop their talents as musicians. At Statham we encourage children to learn from their mistakes, ask questions and challenge themselves to be the best they can be. We aspire to ensure that music is an enjoyable learning experience. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences in and out of the classroom, with the aim to build up their self-confidence, individuality, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen and appraise with discrimination. Children develop their understanding of music through exploring sounds and composing original pieces. Throughout their time at Statham, children have the opportunity to learn instruments alongside the Charanga scheme. Through lessons, children come to understand how aspects of music are inter-related e.g. pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture and structure. Older children learn to use appropriate musical notations. To promote a ‘dare to dream’ mindset through character education and ‘Musician of the Month’ using both historic and contemporary figures to encourage children to consider how they can use their passion for Music in their own futures.
